Remembrance Parade - Sun 11 Nov

To:  Beavers/Cubs/Scouts/Explorers/Adult Leaders & Supporters,

Dear Parents/Carers,

This year marks 100 years since the signing of the Armistice which ended the First World War.  You will be aware from the media that there are many national and local events taking place to mark this significant anniversary.  In Kesgrave we will be commemorating this event on Sunday 11th November.

Scouting teaches us to have courage in all difficulties and to think of others before themselves.  Remembrance is one occasion where we can reflect on the courage of others.  I would like all members of the scout group, along with their families to make every effort to attend our commemoration.

Due to the significance of the anniversary, there are some changes to the way we will be parading.  Due to the size of the church we are not all able to attend at once so there will be two separate services.

Beavers and Cubs (plus Scout/Explorer siblings if not attending the later service)

  • Assemble on Rupert Fison Square outside the Scout Hall by 09.20am (Sunday 11th November)
  • Parade together with local members of Girlguiding via Ropes Drive and Main Road
  • Attend All Saints Church Remembrance service starting at 10.00am
  • Leave the Church and assemble by the Kesgrave War Memorial on Legion Green ready for 11am
  • Participate in the community service of remembrance at the War Memorial
  • Dismissal from Legion Green (please sign out with your section leader), at approximately 11.10. Leaders will be returning to the Scout Hall if you need to collect coats etc.

Scouts and Explorers (plus anyone unable to make the first service)

  • Assemble on Rupert Fison Square outside the Scout Hall by 10.20am (Sunday 11th November)
  • Parade together with local members of Girlguiding via Ropes Drive and Main Road
  • Assemble by the Kesgrave War Memorial on Legion Green ready for 11am
  • Participate in the community service of remembrance at the War Memorial
  • Parade to All Saints Church and attend the remembrance service starting at 11.10am
  • Dismissal from outside of the church (please sign out with your section leader), at approximately 12.00. Leaders will be returning to the Scout Hall if you need to collect coats etc.

Alternative to the Church Service

  • If attending the community service in the Church is not appropriate, you may join the second parade (10.20 at the Scout Hall)
  • Attend the community service of remembrance at the War Memorial (11am)
  • You will be dismissed from the war memorial at 11.10 approx.

Please sign up to the event via the email you received for My.Scout (OSM) and write Yes in one box only (leave the others blank).

Yours sincerely,

Gareth Cox
